Nike Black History Month Shoe Collection
Nike has officially unveiled their entire Black History Month shoe collection, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Each of the footwear selections marks a specific date in sports that have played an integral role in black history, such as Kevin Durant’s moving MVP speech, LeBron James poignant remarks on the impact of sports on society, Carmelo Anthony’s vocal activity in the equal rights conversation, and more. The BHM collection will release in two waves – January 15th and February 1st; see below for the full release info as well as the design inspiration behind each model.
Air Jordan 1 Retro High BHM: This Air Jordan 1 features Carmelo Anthony’s PE logo on the tongue. The Baltimore-bred athlete has been very vocal in the conversation, discussing equal rights and the current state of social affairs in America. Available January 15th.
Nike Air Force 1 Low CMFT BHM: This inspiring release honors the late Martin Luther King Jr. and his iconic “I have a dream” speech. The graphic on the hangtag and the soles of the shoes are represents visualized soundwaves from the speech. Available January 15th.
Nike LeBron 15 BHM: On July 13th, 2016, LeBron James delivered a moving speech on how sports have played an integral role in spreading the message of equality. Available January 15th.
Nike KD 10 BHM: The date commemorates Kevin Durant’s epic MVP speech that details his families meager beginnings and their rise to success. Available January 15th.
Nike Kyrie 4 BHM: Kyrie Irving selects to include a date as he focuses on changing the future. Available January 15th.
Nike Mercurial Vapor XI: This special edition colorway of the Mercurial Vapor XI will be worn by Kevin-Prince Boateng and Dani Alves. Available January 15th.
Air Jordan 1 Flyknit BHM: Michael Jordan was rewarded the Presidential Medal Of Freedom on November 22nd, 2016; the date is printed on the insole. Available February 1st.
Nike Air Force 1 High BHM: Nike gets creative by creating a first-ever print design on the AF1 High. Available February 1st.
Nike Vapormax BHM: The date of August 20th, 1993 commemorates Gail Devers’ record-breaking IAAF 100-meter run. The record still stands today. Available February 1st.
