The Alchemist has been on a hot streak for a few months now. After releasing a two-part project three weeks ago, he and Detroit MC Boldy James have released The Price of Tea in China. 2019 was a quietly productive year for Alchemist. After 2018’s Fetti project with Freddie Gibbs and Curren$y, he produced four collaborative projects. He linked up with The Cool Kids’ for their Layups EP and Evidence for Burnt Tree. In late November, Alchemist dropped the Lamb Over Rice EP with Action Bronson. Dave East dropped his official debut studio album Survival on Def Jam Recordings/Mass Appeal Records this weekend. Running approximately an hour and 20 minutes, the Harlem-born rapper enlists an impressive amount of features from Gang Starr’s DJ Premier on the opener “They Wanna Kill You,” Nas on “Godfather 4,” Rick Ross and The-Dream on “OG,” Mozzy and E-40 on “Devil Eyes” and Ty Dolla $ign on the bonus track, “On Sight.” Stream Dave East’s Survival on Spotify and Apple Music below.  

The North Carolina rap group (minus producer 9th Wonder) reunite for a warm, breezy LP that recalls the best of their original work.  Somehow, the LP manages to live up to Little Brother’s lofty standards. Nine years after saying goodbye with 2010’s Leftback, Phonte and Pooh manage to pick things up like they never left.  

Eve is the third studio album by American rapper Rapsody, released on August 23, 2019. Each song is named for a famous black woman, including Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Aaliyah.  Eve also samples artists like Nina Simone and Herbie Hancock.
